Tiger Leaping Gorge
One of the world's deepest gorges, where the Jinsha River thunders between two towering snow ranges.
Here the Jinsha River forces its way between Jade Dragon and Haba snow mountains, carving one of the deepest gorges on earth. It divides into upper, middle and lower sections over about 23 km — a world-class trek, though you can also simply stop at the viewing platforms.

- April to November is best, with the highest water in July and August.

Know before you go
In the winter low-water season the flow is thin and far less dramatic than the photos — this is the single most common disappointment here. It is also off the rail network and reachable only by road.
